Day Trip to Catalina Island

Heute habe ich einen absoluten ‚Geheimtipp‘ für euch falls ihr mal länger in Los Angeles sein solltet: Ein Tages Trip nach Catalina Island! Ich muss zugeben, dass ich vorher auch noch nie etwas von der süßen kleinen Trauminsel (die nur eine Stunde von Los Angeles mit der Fähre entfernt ist) namens Catalina Island gehört hatte aber ich bin froh, dass Lina und ich hingefahren sind. Am besten erreicht ihr den Catalina Island Express Terminal im Hafen von Long Island mit dem Auto. Ihr könnt dort auf dem Parkplatz parken und dann mit der Fähre für $72 Hin- und Zurück (wenn ihr online bucht kostet es anscheinend ’nur‘ $64) nach Santa Catalina Island fahren. Die Fähre legt nach einer ca. 1 Stündigen Fahrt im Hafen von ‚Avalon‘ (einem kleinen Erholungsort mit vielen Restaurants, Shops und einer wunderschönen Bucht) an von wo aus ihr euch zum Beispiel ein elektrisches Golfauto mieten könnt um die Insel zu erkunden (eine Stunde kostet $40 ein halbe Tag $80). Wir haben es geschafft die halbe Insel innerhalb von 50 min abzufahren und zu umrunden und haben es nicht bereut! 
Der Ausblick von den kurvigen und teilweise felsigen Straßen der kleinen Insel ist atemberaubend und man fühlt sich wirklich wie in einem anderen Land: Es ist total ruhig und entspannt auf der Insel und der Hafen erinnert etwas an Südfrankreich oder auch Griechenland. Man kann natürlich auch über Nacht bleiben und länger auf Santa Catalina bleiben und dort neben Strand, Golfen, Botanischem Garten auch echte Bisons in freier Natur bestaunen (die sind allerdings in einem anderen Teil der Insel und nicht mit den Golfautos zu erreichen). Lina und ich waren abends noch in einem total urigen amerikanisch / italienischem Restaurant und haben den wunderschönen Tag mit einer wirklich leckeren riesen Pizza ausklingen lassen. If you are planning a little get-away from busy and loud Los Angeles you should definitely consider spending one or two days in Santa Catalina Island, a super cute and quiet island only an hour from Long Island, LA. The fairy costs $72 for a roundtrip (only $64 if you book online). Catalina Island is a very small island with almost no cars, small shops and restaurants (in Avalon) and a huge natural diversity with lots of different animals and plants. It literally feels as if you were in a different country. The beautiful bay of Avalon could be somewhere in Greece or Italy and the narrow and steep roads are perfect for a little trip on a gulf card (rent for $40/h). Has anyone of you ever been there?
